On my recent retail safari I dropped into Samaritaine in Paris.
Shuttered in 2005, it was acquired and restored by LVMH and re-opened last year. Now a bastion of luxury, the old, Pont Neuf, side has been lovingly restored and the Rue de Rivoli side makes a 21st century design statement with its undulating glass facade.
It's extremely upmarket and jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Who said the department store was dead?
